Hello everyone and welcome to another post. If you are new here my name is Annaliese and I bring magic into real life. I have an interesting true story for you today, from my own mystical life. Finding and reading this blog post indicates you resonate with me on some level and therefore, most likely, believe or suspect in supernatural occurrences, strange happenings and one of my favourite topics – quantum jumping and multiple realities. Let me transport you back to Los Angeles circa 2014.
It was the height of summer when I crossed paths with a girl far from ordinary. To this day I am convinced she was either my doppelganger or another me from a different reality. It was a most displacing experience yet fascinating, and I often wonder about the other me I saw that afternoon under the blazing sun of Venice, LA. The word doppelgänger is a German word meaning, ‘double walker’ and refers to another person who spookily looks exactly like you and is not a twin or related to you. According to research, there is only a one in 135 chance that a pair of doppelgängers exist within our earthly population of 7.4 billion. In other words, it’s a rare rendezvous.
I preface this story with an important detail. Some of you are aware of a major motorbike accident I was unfortunately involved in when I was 23. Some aren’t. For clarity, I was on the back of a motorbike. My then boyfriend and I were riding along at 30mph when a car, driving up our side of the road at a whopping 70 mph, hit us. The front end of the car ploughed into my right leg and being the pillion passenger I was subsequently catapulted into a brick wall. The car driver then drove off and left us for dead. Both of my legs were badly broken as well as my ribs. My lung had been punctured and collapsed also. A gruelling long stay in the hospital, 13 operations and learning to walk again followed but really, it was only by the grace of God I was still alive. Unsurprisingly, I am left with significant scarring, particularly on my right thigh. The femur (thigh bone) fractured on impact and the ends of the bone had ruptured through the skin and the trousers I was wearing at the time.
I also add here a year before that accident when I was 22, I had been travelling the US from Arizona to California. Fell in love with San Diego and LA and wanted to live in Los Angeles. I still do and find myself in a perpetual state of homesickness which is unpleasant and never allows me to settle properly.
But I digress, back to the summer of 2014 in LA when I had now returned. This time older, wiser, divorced and with my two boys Max and Woody who were 13 and 7 at the time…
We were walking along Venice Boardwalk back to our house and three girls, who looked to be around their early twenties passed by us. One girl caught my attention immediately as I did her. She looked very similar if not exactly like me, especially at that young twenty-something age. This girl was my height and build, with curly/wavey brown hair, medium-length and her face looked the same as mine. It was a casual encounter which slowed my pace. Partly because of our striking similarities, but mainly because we had the same extensive scarring on the thigh area, in the same unique pattern, in the same place. Only hers was her left leg and mine is on my right. It’s not just one scar it’s a few in a particular pattern.
What are the chances of me passing by someone on the other side of the world, who looked like me, was around the age I was at the accident, and had the same scarring in the same pattern in the same place? I remember the connection zinging through me when we raised our eyes from each other's legs to our faces. In disbelief, we both walked by each other but I wanted to talk to her. When I turned around to chase after her, she was long gone into the busy crowds of Venice Boardwalk. I’ve never seen her since.
Make of this what you will, I’d be interested to hear your views on it. I don’t believe it was a coincidence, there are no such things. I'm not convinced it was a doppelganger due to the age difference. I do believe, (or it is my opinion at least), I caught a glimpse of a different reality. We exist in multiple realities at all times after all, and on that fated day had I bumped into the one where I had moved to LA after the accident?
This leaves me to say #who'sthatgirl and why the hell am I living in the wrong reality when I could be tuned into the me living life in Los Angeles?
