Rune Symbol for Money

rune symbol for money

Following on from previous posts – What are Viking Rune Symbols and the Rune Symbol for Love- I continue this jaunt into the runes. This week, I have spotlighted the symbol used to represent money, prosperity and wealth. Use the money rune within normal rune readings, to cast a spell, set an intention or seek guidance and answers. However you feel called to work it is always the right way and I have some great suggestions at the end of this post on how to use the money rune outside of traditional rune casting to bring about financial blessings. Read on, my friends and let’s call in all that lovely money in!

If you have read the previous posts, you will know runes are not just letters but symbols that hold mystical meanings and messages. They are an ancient tradition of the Nordic and Germanic people, including the Vikings, and while there is no single rune exclusively representing money historically, several runes have strong associations with money, wealth, prosperity, and material success. However, the most significant and commonly recognised is Fehu. The symbol is a straight upward line with two diagonal lines branching from the upper left of the line.  Pronounced FAY-hoo, the symbol represents cattle, mobile property, abundance, wealth, money and material gain.

Fehu

Fehu, the first rune of the Elder Futhark alphabet, represents cattle in its original meaning. In ancient times, cattle were a primary source of wealth, power, prosperity, financial stability, and the fulfilment of dreams and goals. Fehu’s symbolic connection to wealth extends its magical energy to all forms of abundance and brings in more success to those areas where you concentrate its energy.

Fehu is used in divination to (usually) attract financial gain, wealth, and riches of all sorts and to ensure a continuous proper flow of the said abundance. However, it also represents that real wealth and happiness grow through circulation, sharing and generosity.

When Fehu appears in a reading or is written in an upright position, it is a strong positive sign, indicating monetary gains, financial growth, new success, new beginnings and opportunities. When the symbol is read in reverse, Fehu represents a warning. Indicating loss, mismanagement of resources, or financial struggles, although no one wants this message, it can be used in a positive heads-up kinda of way allowing you to be more vigilant, savvy and cautious. You may feel inspired to re-evaluate matters, business or people in your life, amongst other examples. A reversed Fehu symbol, utilised in this way, means you can bypass any disasters rather than fear them.

Other Runes Associated with Money and Prosperity

Fehu is the primary rune for wealth, but several others also have great and interesting significance:

  1. Jera (ᛃ) – The rune of harvest and cycles, Jera signifies rewards for past efforts. It represents the principle that hard work and patience will bring prosperity in due time. Jera is a good rune for long-term financial stability and investments.
  2. Dagaz (ᛞ) – The rune of transformation and new beginnings, Dagaz can represent a breakthrough in financial situations, such as a new job, business opportunity, or unexpected financial gain.
  3. Othala (ᛟ) – Representing inheritance, legacy, and ancestral wealth, Othala is tied to land ownership, generational prosperity, and long-term financial security.
  4. Raidho (ᚱ) – As the rune of travel and movement, Raidho can signify financial transactions, trade, and business ventures, particularly those involving travel or commerce.
  5. Uruz (ᚢ) – Representing strength and endurance, Uruz is a rune of potential wealth through hard work and perseverance. It reminds one that financial success often comes from dedication and effort.

Using Fehu for Money

As well as being used in rune readings, Fehu can be used in rituals, charms, or inscriptions to attract financial success. Some common methods include:

  • Carve, paint or draw Fehu onto purses, wallets or cash registers to invite continuous cash flow.
  • Draw or carve Fehu on a candle and burn it while focusing on financial goals. Ise a green candle for extra magical properties and/or yellow for success.
  • Create a talisman by inscribing Fehu on a piece of wood or stone and carrying it in your pocket or bag.
  • Meditating on Fehu’s energy to align with the energetic frequencies of financial abundance
  • Use a (skin-safe) marker pen and draw it on your body – inside of the wrist, inside of the elbow, thigh and on the foot are all common placed used for such practice.
  • Mahe a pendent place a drawing or small rune inside a pendent or make the stave itself the pendent by adding a chain
  • Place it in your phone case or purse draw the symbol on a bay leaf or piece of paper with a marker pen and place it in your phone case or the zip compartment of your purse.

Without question, Fehu is the most powerful symbol for money in the runic system, but the others mentioned here also contribute greatly to financial gains, stability and success. Whether used in divination, magic, or as a symbolic representation, these runes serve as powerful tools to attract prosperity, fulfil ambitions and maintain financial well-being, and are worth further looking into.

Wishing money and the fulfilment of ambitions to all.
